Okay. HA! I've been running the live CD trying to figure out what conditions made Hardy (8.04) freeze. This won't give you the log - it FREEZES, then the log disappears on reboot. I'll reinstall Hardy and do this again.
In any case, this is what I've been up to. Booted from the Hardy live CD. Hadn't hooked up the Wacom yet. Running a tail on /var/log/messages. Nothing happened the past couple of days (just wireless manually switched off for a day then on for a day). Got your message, so I plugged in the Wacom tablet. Got some kernel messages immediately at the connect - just reporting what it was doing, they don't seem terribly significant. Moved the mouse and pen a bit, but no cursor movement. Could get a right-click event on clicking the mouse (a mouse left click) but that's it. To remove the right click menu (from the Gnome desktop), I have to move the mouse a bit using the trackpad and then left click. Went to the bathroom. When I got back the system had frozen. No messages in /var/log/messages that showed up before the freeze (other than the Wacom connection messages mentioned above). I'll Install Hardy and try this again.
