"Does the capslock key still work?" Don't know. I'll see if I can get it to freeze again and try that.
"If you're feeling particularly adventuresome, you might try some remote debugging. If you can find another computer and two spare serial ports, connect them by a "null modem cable" (different than your regular serial cable) and see if any strange messages come up during the freeze, or if you still get occasional --MARK-- messages." I had a tail -f running on /var/log/messages the whole time. All I saw was --MARK-- messages. However, that's not to say that the machine froze before the message could appear on the screen. "http://wiki.sangoma.com/wanpipe-linux-system-debugging has a guide, if you dare." Hey, I'll take a look. Don't know how good I'll be at this, though. I suspect this is a kernel problem. There are lots of threads here and elsewhere about freezing problems in Hardy. The initial suspicion was the Nvidia drivers, but several people had the problem on ATI machines (such as this one). Another suspicion was wireless - which is why I was trying wireless on and off. I'll keep plugging at it. The next thing I'm going to do is let the machine install all the updates. One of them I've noticed is a new kernel. Maybe that'll fix it. -- Wacom tablet doesn't work in Gutsy, freezes OS in Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
