Same problem here...
But i do not have such a thing as "profiles"...
I'm using firefox 3.0 on Ubuntu 8.04
(firefox update was automaticly done by packet manager)

bookmarks are gone, I can not add bookmarks or import bookmarks
backup, the toolbar does not work, the buttons back, then update are broken,
the bar gives direction errors
