This bug appears to be caused by one of ttf-arphic-{uming,ukai}.
Reassigning once I know which.
** Summary changed:
- Overdrawing issues with certain Japanese characters (on amd64?)
+ With ttf-arphic-uming installed, certain Japanese characters break firefox's
rendering
** Description changed:
- Binary package hint: firefox

- Hi,
-
When visiting nicovideo.jp, and scrolling to the bottom of the page, the
page appears to overdraw itself. A screenshot is attached. This happens
with the ubuntu amd64 build, 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3. It
does /not/ happen with the 32-bit tarballs off the mozilla.com site. I
have not tested with 32-bit ubuntu builds.
- It appears to occur due to certain characters appearing on the page.
- I've isolated one such case below.
-
- This bug is rather annoying, as the entire page (or at least, any
- portion which puts the character on question on screen) is rendered
- unreadable. I'd use the i386 build, but my IME is unusable there...
+ It appears to occur due to certain characters appearing on the page -
+ I've isolated one such case below - and only with ttf-arphic-uming
+ installed.
** Also affects: ttf-arphic-uming (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
