So i just checked, booted from usb stick into ubuntueee 8.04.1 on a
1000h, by default wired network works, are you sure your router is
running a dhcp server? Any access restrictions? Also tried wireless with
NO security and it works. For WPA you need adams updates. Also I have
read (something i find unlikely but worth a try) to make the usbstick
with the windows version of unetbootin, the version i used was
unetbootin-eebuntu-windows-276
