stlubuntu proposed the following answer: On another tutorial about installing ubuntu 8.04 on the eeepc, the author also had the problem where WIRED networking no longer functioned after the install. He solution was to completely power down the unit, disconnect the power cord, and remove the battery. Then wait five minutes, reinstall the battery, plug the power cord back in, plug in the ethernet cable, power back up, log on, and then at least the WIRED networking should work. Hope this helps. The author also indicated that not everyone has this problem and needs to do this, but he did.
