poirot confirmed that the question is solved:
I have got a eee 1000. I have installed 8.04.1 and I could connect to
the internet without any problem so I never really installed the
array.org kernel. After I got the problem I did install the latter and
the problem is still present. I just installed what the update said
should be updated.
