OK, I managed to scour old designs, I believe the work is by Nick
McMahon with some help from Paul van Genderen. Note that they are
outdated and what we're looking for now is meant to be very different,
yet I believe it useful for y'all to see what has been worked on.
One frontpage mockup here, please ignore the logo (no logo for now):

And another, html mockup here:
http://sh.nu/~crimsun/mirror/ubuntu-marketing/subeta.tar.gz

And my very own, very new, sitemap here:

Be sure to check out https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MarketingTeam/SpreadUbuntu
as well soon - I'm working on it at the very moment.

Keep in mind that the mockups we're looking for now should only have the
front page on them, not the entire site. And once again: please do give
it a try. You can even team up in groups to work something out till July 12.

Thanks,

Jenda
