Well, I'm pretty sure Mint isn't legally distributable in many countries, and as far as I can recollect, the only improvements it makes to that experience are installing by default those "illegal" packages. As a reputable distributor, Ubuntu cannot include these packages, and the current situation is a pretty good compromise until everyone uses patent-free, open formats.
