Hello, I am new to this list so still trying to get a feel for what has
already been said. Forgive me if I repeat something already mentioned.

From my perspective the marketing needs first to be organized as you
mentioned John. Your letter seemed to be right on track. As a business
owner (albeit a two man operation) I do what I can to market Open Source
and Ubuntu specifically. Where community seemed to come up short was
available material which was easy to find with a clear, common message.
This message should be in an easy to navigate site with material ready
for press/air/web.

Seems that the community also lacks a strategy for marketing. How many
business owners would volunteer the last 10 secs of air or the bottom
1-2" of print space if they had material ready to go? How many would be
willing to tag their businesses with "Powered by..." equivalent. Also,
Paolo made a few good points on his thread.

I respect that the advertising campaign would have to be unique and
along the lines of gorilla marketing but the options are there to use.
Does the community qualify as a non-profit so that a "Public
announcement" may be utilized? There are a number of questions like
this to be asked/answered.

Not being a marketing major I definitely don't know all the options.
But for what it is worth, I'll throw my hat in to help with the "core"
team as you mentioned John.
