John, thanks for taking the initiative.  Lot of fire here.  My .02 is 
that it sounds like a lot is trying to be accomplished in one shot; 
could be wrong.  As some one who has several years with the military 
KISS (Keep It Simple and Stupid) always worked best for getting from 
point a to b.

May I suggest the the 12 Nov date stand as is for a simple primer.  
Objective would be to focus the group and leave with the following 
accomplished:

Purpose
Direction
Motivation
Assets (that we have here today)

Who fills what role will come through as the need arises.  John, you are 
doing well to lead this charge and I have no probs with this 
continuing.  Ruben seems to have volunteered the technical aspect via 
Spread Ubuntu (Nice site).

12 Nov. with a simple agenda is a good start.  If another, more in depth 
meeting needs to be scheduled for UDS(?) which I have no idea (sorry for 
my ignorance), is necessary then so be it.  A regular meeting schedule 
too will settle into place.  Until then as many meetings at what ever 
time is necessary.  All I ask is advance notice.
