No need to copy it back (though a backup is always a good idea). When you install go to the "Something Else" option when it asks how to install it, select the current ubuntu partition, click Change (I think, something like that), select the mount point as / but *do not* select Format. I repeat *not* format. This tells the installer to install it into that partition, but because it has been told not to format it it will leave your home directory as it is.
