Vihar proposed the following answer: You can try sudo apt-get autoclean or (autoremove) or both or dpkg --remove in order to remove unused files/packages an free space. Read carefully the output during operations to see what is going to be removed. If not sure answer with "n" (no). But first you can look at the manual for this programs to know how they act. man apt-get man dpkg .
