Actually, there is a backup option in Evolution. If you take the .Evolution folder, you may take configuration problems with it....doing a backup doesn't take any personalization, just the data (email, contacts, etc).
Do BOTH, just in case, but I would try restoring from a back up first. Once you have a copy saved (both backup and the .Evolution folder, just delete the .Evolution from your home.
