Hey folks: I'm having problems even trying to find a name to this, so maybe if you can point me to FAQs, or such I'd appreciate it.
After rebooting/turning on the system, programs refuse to run after a few minutes or so. An example: If you use a file manager and click on say a .TXT file, Kate is suppose to come up. For while it does, but then suddenly it won't. The indicator rotates around and around for about a minute then nothing happens. The only way to look at the file, is manually starting kate and use kate to load the file manually. The only way I've found to solve this problem is either rebooting the entire system, or sometimes you can re-start X but that doesn't solve the problem all the time. There is a couple of other possibly linked problems. #1 Programs I install in WINE (like Dreamweaver) doesn't even show up in the WINE menu, and the ONLY way to start them, is using a file manager to manually click on the .EXE file (like dreamweaver.exe) I've tried to run them via the command line, and it constently says 'file not found' #2 GIMP (w/GIMPShop) is a special case. When I first installed both, they ran from the menu. Lately, it won't run from the menu. Instead I've set up the menu entry by telling it to "Run in Terminal" If I type 'gimp' at the command line, I get this before it starts: kcred...@zeus:~$ gimp /usr/local/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/print: error while loading shared libraries: libgimpprint.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory (gimp:12816): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: gimp: wire_read(): error There is another thing that *might* be connected. At times when the system starts/restarts, I get 'ksudo has no supplied arguments' or something like that. (If you can give me a location to the logs I'll be glad to post it here.) I've looked around on google, and IXquick for things like 'programs not starting Ubuntu' or similar, but can't find a thing. Anyone hear or experienced this problem?
