In Ubuntu, logs can be found at System/Administration/System Log.

Also in Ubuntu,  System/Administration/System Monitor (it will also
run as a standard panel applet) gives a quick glimpse of what is
hogging the system and when.

If you can relate that info to Kubuntu, good luck and hope it helps
