I am having the same problem.  I originally was using "nosmp acpi=off"
but have determined that only "nosmp" is required.  Regular kernels work
fine just not the RT realtime version.

I am running Studio 9.10 i386 version.  My processor is Intel P4 3.2ghz
Prescott, 2.5gb RAM, MSI PT880 system board.

So far everthing works great except SMP.  Very nice distribution!

Status in Ubuntu Studio: New

Bug description:
I have installed both the i386 and the amd64 versions of Ubuntu Studio 9.04. 
After installing and loggin in, the cursor moves extremely slow, and then, 
locks up (freezes). Sometimes once I start Update Manager. Other times, before 
I can even click on Update Manager.

I have WinXP and Ubuntu 9.04 (both i386 and amd64 - separate partitions) 
running on this pc already (and was using Ultimate 8.10 before, i386 and amd64 
versions on separate partitions).

My pc is comprised of the following components to help you review this report:

EVGA i780 Motherboard (775 socket)
Intel E8400 3.0 Ghz CPU
8 Gb DDR2 800 RAM
XFXForce 8600GT 1GB DDR2 RAM Video Graphics Adapter Card
Maxtor 500Gb SATA-II Hard Disc Drive
Asus DVD Drive
Seasonic 600 Watt PS
