Hi,

I tested the last version of net-snmp (5.4.1), but the time response of GET request is yet more 50 ms.

I posted my problem on net-snmp list.
And net-snmp list answered :
"You really need to explore your options to do profiling on the embedded system. See http://www.net-snmp.org/wiki/index.php/Debugger#Profiling
for some suggestions. "

With my target (board based on MCF5328, uClinux-dist-20070130 distribution with kernel 2.6.19 and gcc version 4.1.1), is-it possible to profile a process (here snmpd) on uClinux in order to use gprof?
If yes, how to do, please?

Thanks you for your advices
Best regards

Cedric

Hi,

You'd likely get a more meaningful response from the net-snmp list.
Check net-snmp.org.

Net-snmp is a fairly hefty app. You may want to ask net-snmp list which
version is most appropriate for an embedded app and what can be done to
minimize it's overhead processing. Check the configure options, maybe
things can be disabled that will decrease processing overhead, maybe
limiting some of the mibs you include will decrease processing of
messages. Lot's of string/tbl lookups in net-snmp I think.

You should be able to compile newer versions of net-snmp for uclinux, it
is an active project and there are many useful updates in newer
versions. Current version is 5.4. There may not be any particularly
good reason to limit your use to the version in the dist.

Matt

Subject: [uClinux-dev] net-snmp slow with kernel 2.6.x

Hi to everybody!

Today, I must use uClinux-dist-20070130 distribution with Linux version
2.6.19-uc1 (gcc version 4.1.1).
My board is based on MCF5328.
Then, I active net-snmp.
But performances about response time with net-snmp (whatever the
revisions) are really bad.
With net-snmp 5.0.9:
Response time of snmp server is average around or more 80 ms.
With net-snmp 5.1.2:
Response time of snmp server is average around or more 80 ms.

This problem is critical for my application, because MCF5328 works only
kernel 2.6.x.

Or, on an another board based on MCF5307, I use uClinux-dis-20041215
distribution with kernel 2.4.x.
And with net-snmp 5.0.9, response time of snmp server is average less 1
ms.

Has anybody seen a similar behaviour or an idea why performances of
net-snmp between two distributions are different, please?
I searched uClinux archive and googled around, but no hint to solve this
problem on uClinux-dist-20070130 distribution with kernel 2.6.x?

Thank you very much.

Cedric
