Refocus gets much better results, which makes sense since the
deconvolution method actually has a sound mathematical grounding, rather
than unsharp masking which is a hack whose only methodological basis is
that you can actually implement it with transparencies in a darkroom.

That said, at the end of the day it's an aesthetic decision and there
are also speed advantages to the more primitive methods. So I don't see
why it's necessary to restrict ourselves to a single method. DigiKam and
other packages offer multiple sharpening algorithms, and I think this is
the right approach. Of course, the first job is to add at least one.
