MEMBERS of Parliament, Movement leaders and mobilisers in Kampala district have launched 'Operation Third Term' to campaign for President Yoweri Museveni to seek another term in 2006.

The campaign was launched on Monday at Nakivubo Blue Primary School after the main celebrations at Kololo airstrip marking the 18th NRM/NRA victory day celebrations
Nyombi Tembo, Kampala Movement chairperson also Kasanda South MP, Tom Kayongo (Lubaga North), Fred Ruhindi (Nakawa), all Kampala Movement chairpersons, resident district commissioners (RDCs) and about 800 Movement mobilisers attended the ceremony.

It is time to show the world that President Museveni has the support of the people to get another term of office, Tembo told the cheering supporters.

They vowed to start the kakuyege (canvassing) for Musevenis stay in power. Others called it, Operation Return Museveni in 2006.

Former Kayunga RDC, now with th e State House legal department, Naava Nabagesera, Kampala RDC Stanley Kinyatta and his four deputies, division movement chairpersons, Caleb Tukaikiriza (Nakawa), Sheikh Kalanzi (Makindye) and Charles Rwakibaale Atenyi (Kampala Central) and Luweero chairman Abdul Nadduli asked the gathering to start mobilising for Musevenis third term.

All four Kampala deputy RDCs Joyce Rugasa (Kampala Central), Fred Bamwine (Lubaga), Edward Ssekabinja (Makindye) and Kalangala RDC Katenda Luutu and former Jinja RDC Deo Kayongo said they support the operation.

We are tired of being suffocated by selfish individuals who do not want the progress the country is making. This time there is no more hiding. All of us shall rise as one and convince the whole country to give President Museveni another term, Tembo told the mobilisers.

This is not because we are sycophants but because we know what we want, and that is President Museveni.

Nabagesera said MPs Margaret Z ziwa and Francis Babu (Kampala Central) did not attend but were working closely with us.

The roaring crowd broke into frenzy, chanting tajjakugenda tajja kugenda (he wont go, he wont go) as each speaker added their voice to previous speakers in support of what they called ekisanja (third term).

The supporters flashed three fingers, signifying third term, as they bellowed in unison Museveni abeewo (let Museveni be there).
This will be our trademark in the next two years, deputy RDC Samuel Hashaka said.

Nabagesera, who organised the function, said, This is the time for our mobilisers to begin sensitising the people. We want to start the kakuyege when it is still early enough. We do not want our people to be misguided, she said.

Kinyatta said, There have been some allegations that Kampala doesn't support Museveni. But today, I have seen for myself that President Museveni still has the people's support. I commission you now to go and pr each the gospel.

Our history should guide us. Let's be careful and not go back to our painful history. Some politicians are like the proverbial pastor who knelt on the oxygen tube of the patient and he died.

Some politicians are kneeling on Ugandans oxygen tubes. Only President Museveni has a clear vision for this country. Let's work with him for the good of this country. Nobody should divert our attention, Ruhindi said.

A women group excited the gathering when they sang, 'Museveni bwe bulamu bwaffe' (Museveni is our life).

There should not be any questions about the kisanja. If our people still want the President, who can stand in their way?" Kayongo said.
