Kazibwe warns on population increase

FORMER Vice-President Specioza Wandira Kazibwe on Sunday warned against unplanned population increase, saying this could ruin the wealth of a country and affect the health of the women.
She said this during the UN Population Day at Gombe grounds in Mpigi district.
Kazibwe, however, caused excitement when she knelt down to give mineral water to a cyclist who had participated in a competition organised as part of the celebrations.
Finance minister Gerald Sendaula said the fertility of mothers in the country is about seven children, which is among the highest in the world.
He said though a big population is important for providing market and labour, it has disastrous effects including land shortages arising out of land fragmentation and access to health care.
