Oulanyah clarifies position on Museveni�s third term

PARLIAMENT'S committee on legal and parliamentary affairs has clarified that it did not say President Yoweri Museveni should be given another five-year term in office, writes John Odyek.

Jacob Oulanyah (Omoro), who heads the committee, on Thursday said the committee questioned whether the proposal was practically and legally sound.

He said they discussed the possibility of amending the Constitution either to give only one extra term to Museveni, while maintaining the term limits in the Constitution through a transitional arrangement or to amend and have a three five-term limit for presidents.

He said the committee proposed that Parliament should vote on the matter.

Oulanyah was responding to stories in The Monitor of Wednesday and Thursday, which said MPs had given Museveni another five-year term in office.
