CHARLES Wesley Mumberes supporters in Kasese and Bundibugyo have vowed to defend the establishment of his kingdom if challenged in court.

Mumbere returned from the US on Saturday, only to find his subjects divided over the restoration of the kingdom.

A group led by National Political Commissar Dr. Crispus Kiyonga has opposed the establishment of the kingdom and vowed to go to court, saying Bakonzho have never had a king.

Many Bakonzho and Bamba, however, welcomed Mumbere at Entebbe Airport and celebrated at Pope Paul Memorial Community Centre in Kampala.

They performed cultura l dances and vowed to fight those opposing Mumbere.

Mumbere lashed out at his opponents saying, Those were young boys when the Kingdom was founded.

Mumbere said Kiyonga congratulated the 300 Bakonzho who demonstrated in Bwera recently opposing the kingdom.

Kasese district chairman Yokas Bihande said residents were ready to challenge anyone who opposed the kingdom.

Leaders oppose kingship

By Vision Reporter

THE elders of Bamba, Babwisi and Batuku in Bundibugyo district have told Charles Wesley Mumbere to stop claiming kingship.

In a statement on Friday, the elders also told Mumbere not to hold the public rally he was organising.

The Bundibugyo Elders development association said when one graduated like Mumbere had, the family organises a party not a public rally.

The statement said Isaya Mukirani was a teacher and a district councillor for Harugale sub-county, the then Toro kingdom council.

It said Mukirani hid in the Rwenzori mountains in 1962 and declared himself a king before he died.

Mumbere inherited the throne from Mukirani, the leader of the Rwenzururu movement, which liberated Bukonzho from Toro.

The statement said in the movements original aims, the idea of obusinga (a kingdom) was not there.
