Aswa County MP, Mr Reagan Okumu, has accused the Pader District Woman MP, Ms Santa Okot and the Northern Region Army Intelligence Coordinator, Col. Charles Otema, of masterminding the beating of four MPs in Acholi Burr, Kitgum district last year.

"These beatings were not planned by the government but by Ms Santa Okot because she wants to contest in Aruu County against Odonga Otto.

She accomplished her mission with Col. Otema who coordinates intelligence in the 4th and 5th army divisions," Okumu said.

He was on Thursday appearing before the parliamentary committee that was set up to investigate the beatings and present a report to Parliament.

The committee is chaired by MP Kabakumba Masiko (Bujenje).

MPs; Odonga Otto (Aruu), Prof. Morris Ogenga Latigo (Agago), Michael Nyeko Ocula (Kilak) and their drivers sustained bruises when soldiers used bamboo sticks to beat them as they alighted from their vehicles at Acholi Burr Trading Centre on November 22, 2004.

They had gone to the area to consult people on the government's White Paper.

Okumu told the probe committee that since the four MPs belong to FDC, an opposition political party, their problem was purely political.

"There is a feeling among some sections in northern Uganda that since peace is slowly returning to the region, Movement supporters should take the credit of having facilitated it not those in the opposition," he said.

He said Okot went ahead and accused the four MPs of inciting people against the government.
