But all those elites will always be in self interest, does not matter what nation. But we as society change them, we set the standard in which we need to be governed. The moment we do not set those standards, the self interest of the elites surpasses our rights and that is where Uganda is today. We are not critical thinkers we do not have standards and any one can lead Uganda to where ever he wants to.
Go back to 1979 and look at No Lule No work. Why did Ugandans love Lule? What was so important that Lule had done or promised to do for Uganda? But they called him a Professor too even if he was never a professor in his life. Lule became on one side the only man to guide Ugandans, how would have we set the standards of how he must lead us when we cried for him with out even knowing his agenda? Because as much as I follow Uganda politics I do not know what was Lule's principles. I do not. But the man joined the war when it is almost over, he lead Uganda for 69 days, and today he is lying in Kololo.
So tell me if Obote dies today, God forbid, this is a man who got our independence, is he going to be buried in middle of Kampala road?
We have a nation whose politics is at stalemate, when any one tries to talk bout it he goes to how terrible was 1966 and 1968, and we have sworn our selves to never move on from that time. Look here I search for signs of growth in Uganda to show me the future of this nation and I see none. Let us agree that Obote was bad, but can you kindly tell me one educated that Uganda has produced since 1971? For that is one of the standard to know a better future coming. Most of those educated Ugandans, the Wakhweyas, The Wanume Kibedis, the Olara otunus, on and on were all educated under obote for he knew with out educating the masses we will be ignorant people. The term a pearl of Africa was based on the educated Uganda was producing and planning to produce. UPC is a pain to the butt today because it has educated people. DP or KY do not. Tell me one leader who has come into power and does not use UPC brain to form a government. Why? Citibank said that Uganda today has the most bank fraud than even Nigeria. That used to read Uganda has the best Makerere University.
But that noncritical thinking came from way back, "Ayi Ssabasajja woligwa nange wendigwa" What if Ssabasajja is wrong?
We as Ugandans must know what is right for us, we have to set up the standards and then the leadership will follow, policies change for you don't want to annoy the electorate, but Uganda has no electorate and no one needs it to be in power.
It is not a nation it is a ZOO and we might as well cage it and the rest of society moves on.

Bwana Mulindwa,
I agree with most of your analysis especially regarding M-7's utterances which are extremely economical on the TRUTH.
But on the inability of Ugandans to be critical thinkers, I think you are generalising too much. What I personally have observed to be the major problem with the political elite is SELF INTEREST. People deliberately refuse to "think" or think 'backwardly' and make utterances which make you wonder whether your ears served you well. Otherwise, can you explain to me how a person calling him/herself a "professor" can make some of the statements I've heard recently from our professors in M-7's regime in support of the 5th term (25 years in power) ? It is SELF INTEREST rather than inability to be analytical.
But since you are in North America, can you help me by telling me how much this gorilla called Humvee costs (bullet-proof, TV, fridge, communication equipment, parachute, open roof for papachuting in case all fails, etc).

The problem we must make public again and again is a simple fact that Ugandans are not critical thinkers. Many times I have gone back into my postings in these forums and wondered why every thing I predicted on Museveni and movement have become true to the last data. You and I knowwhoit was even impossible to post any thing happening in Uganda on Ugandanet because all Ugandans here were praising Museveni as a good leader, a manhas done absolutely nothing good for our nation. Museveni was a disasterwant
from day one and he had all the writing on the wall. From how he conducted
his war in Luwero to how he became a president. Museveni addressed us in
Nairobi and he categorically stated that he is fighting but he does notto lead Uganda. Ugandans believed him, but I did not for I knew the manfromhasway back.
Why are we today in 2005 surprised that he is wasting public funds? whenwhetherhe ever been responsible to Uganda's funds?
