By Halima Abdallah The Tripartite Joint Commission for D.R. Congo, Rwanda and Uganda has agreed to disarm and prosecute militia leaders, terrorists and other criminals threatening regional stability. The United States facilitated the meeting held in Kigali. Other representatives were from Burundi, the African Union, the European Union Presidency and the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC). A press statement from the United States embassy says the meeting agreed to disarm the militia operating in eastern Congo and commended MONUC for advancing regional stability and extending its mandate to September 2005. The African Union pledged to deploy forces in eastern DRC to disarm militia forces. [EMAIL PROTECTED] |
