Not guilty is the verdict. One down, three to go. Dr Kizza Besigye was the loser on February 23rd, but he emerged victor in the High Court today, after Justice John Bosco Katutsi acquitted him of the charge of rape.
The High Court decided there was no merit in Joan Kyakuwa's case, and consequently dismissed it. It provides some respite for Kizza Besigye, who still has three cases pending; of treason, concealment of treason and another of illegal possession of firearms.
Delivering his judgement, Justice Katutsi said the prosecution failed to prove it's case, saying the alleged victim, Joan

Kyakuwa, told many lies and could not have forgotten the date and month of the incident (as she claimed).
He described the evidence adduced by the prosecution as inadequate, impotent, ridiculous and monstrous to a man that competed for the highest office in the country.
It is a happy conclusion of the matter for which Dr Besigye was arrested on November 14, 2005, sparking violent demonstrations over a two-day period.

Besigye to sue, women to take proceeds
Meanwhile, Dr Besigye has vowed to sue government for the damage and loss he suffered as a result of the rape case.
Speaking to the press after the judgement on his rape case had been made, Besigye said the case had had adverse effects on his person, his family, and the FDC as a party. He pledged
to
donate any procceeds that might accrue from his suit to organisations engaged in the fight against the abuse of women.
