AN American national and six others were yesterday charged afresh with terrorism and illegal possession of firearms and remanded until March 28.
Peter Waldron, 59, a resident of Kisugu and his co-accused were charg
ed at
the Buganda Road Court before Chief Magistrate Margaret Tibulya.
The new charge followed an amendment in the charge sheet by the Director of Public Prosecution. They had previously been charged with terrorism under the Penal Code Act. The suspects will now be tried under the anti-terrorism act of 2000.
The six others are David Mwesigye of Zana, Muramuzi Byaruhanga of Luwafu, Kisembo Bitamala of Luwafu, Kasangaki Bahigani of Bukejja zone, Dido Manyihora of Zana and Benjamin Byakagaba.
They include two Ugandans and four Congolese, including a former rebel.
The state alleges that the suspects on February 20 in Kisugu, a city suburb, were found in illegal possession of firearms and 180 bullets.
State attorney Hellen Wenene said inquiries were on-going and asked court for more time for the Police to carry on with investigations.

Waldron, dressed in a black suit, white shirt and black shoes appeared calm and kept on laughing throughout the court proceedings.
Wenene said the suspects did not have any valid licence to possess the alleged firearms. Police says Waldron claimed to be working as a consultant at the Ministry of Health in the Information Technology Department before he was arrested and charged.
