The UPDF Northern Uganda intelligence coordinator, Col. Charles Otema, has dismissed a report by Rupiny newspaper that 400 LRA rebels had entered the country from Sudan as 'a complete lie'.
Rupiny yesterday reported that 400 rebels entered through Ngom Oromo in Kitgum district and caused a lot of panic among the people.
"We have had no reports of any LRA entering Kitgum district," Otema said yesterday at Gulu barracks. "We also did not hear of any incident in that area. On the contrary, a group of 15 to 20 rebels is being pursued by our troops in Palabek, as they are trying to cross into Sudan to join their leaders in Congo," he said.
"The remnants of LRA in Congo, Sudan and northern Uganda do not exceed 400," Otema said. "Of these, not more than 100 are in Uganda, split up in small groups of a maximum of 20. Let those 400 be availed to us. It would make it much easier for us to fight them," he said.

He warned 'irresponsible journalists' of fuelling the conflict and stopping the return of internally displace people to their homes. "Reporters should stand warned not to mislead the public," he said.
"This is the time when people are cultivating. Others in Teso and Lango regions are going back to their villages. Such irresponsible reports are sending fear into the population. People have suffered enough. Nobody should feed them with false information to stop them from cultivating or going home. This sounds like propaganda," he said.
Meanwhile, the UPDF said three rebels were killed and one captured from Nyarabonga, southern Sudan on Monday. They were part of a group of 20 which was trying to cross River Nile to Congo. The army confiscated sorghum and drugs.
