LOCAL government minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire has said LRA rebel leader Joseph Kony's call for peace talks with the government was a trick to give him chance to regroup.
He said every time Kony is defeated, he calls for peace talks with the government.
"He is not serious. If he was serious, he would not have waited until the UPDF cornered him. Let the United Nations handle him," Otafiire said at the opening of a local government workshop for district leaders and heads of department at Lira Hotel on Thursday.
Reacting to the recent peace initiatives brokered by Southern Sudanese vice- president Riek Machar, Otafiire said Kony does not know what peace talks are.
"Would he understand what peace talks is all
about and the peace agreement?" he asked.

Lira resident district commissioner Joan Pacoto told Otafiire that the security situation in the district had normalised and thatthe LRA rebels were no more.
Pacoto said the only problem left was what she described as "Kony B" (thieves).
Otafiire said the LRA rebels and the Karimojong cattle rustlers, who have been terrorising the northern and eastern part of the country for about 20 years now, would soon end.
