MEMBERS of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Children (UPFC) have decried the living
conditions of children affected by armed conflict and the rate of school drop-outs in northern Uganda.
The members said they were worried because almost half the children living in the camps do not go to school but remain playing in the camps.
They vowed before some of the children in the camps and centres they visited that they would put pressure on the government to provide them with adequate education and make laws that protect their rights besides improving on the harsh living conditions in the camps.
The chairperson of the UPFC, Ruth Tuma, said, "We have seen and heard the conditions of the children living in the camps. We will put pressure on the government to ensure the living conditions of the children are improved so that they all go to school, and laws that protect children's rights are put in place."
Kapelabyong MP Johnson Malinga said, "If I had a
chance to talk to Joseph Kony, I would tell him to release all the children in captivity without any conditions attached."

District chairman Norbert Mao said, "Will my people have Christmas in their homes? that is the word from the president. He should come and say it for himself to the people in the camps. You as MPs who have visited the camps and seen the plight of the children in the camps should give all the facts you have gathered in a raw form without editing anything so that the rest who fear to come can understand our condition.
"Sometimes when our MPs are talking they just politicise the situation in the north," he added.
The members also talked to the children at Anaka and Koch-Goma camps
