Since last week, we have been getting reports of diplomatic threats between
South Africa and Rwanda, due to the alleged attempt to assassinate an exiled
Rwanda general in South Africa, but as far as we know none of them had
actually gone through with such threats. We are however being informed that
The South African government has expelled and deported a Burundi diplomat
immediately. The Burundi foreign minister in Bujumbura has just stated that
a one Jean-Claude Sindayigaya, the first secretary of the embassy of Burundi
in South Africa, was approached by the government of South Africa yesterday
Friday, told to leave the country and thrown on a departing air craft same
Friday. So all this took place yesterday. As by now the minister of foreign
affairs in Burundi is stating that he doesn’t have a reason why the
secretary was abruptly instructed to leave the country, but Burundi
ambassador to South Africa Isaie Ntirizoshira made a statement to the press
stating that the South African government regarded the actions of
Jean-Claude Sindayigaya injurious to state security.

It is not clear whether this expulsion has anything to do with the standoff
between South Africa and Rwanda.
