Hm, 3 or 5 if I have to make a choice.

My preference is #2 for the banner, and #6 for a big logo, and #8 for the small logo (instead of #9 because the little people make the rest of the logo too small).

I think the text on the banner should not say "An Open Source Project". How about "An Apache Incubator Project". No idea if it's easy to change that.

Branding rules at Apache for podlings (http://incubator.apache.org/guides/branding.html ) say the name *must* be Apache UIMA and a mention must be included that the project is under incubation. Note that the logo need not contain "Apache" - I deduce this from many other logos for other top level
projects at the Apache site.

Suitable mentions that the project is under incubation include inclusion of the http://incubator.apache.org/uima URL.

I think it would be good to use the banner to "advertise" this is an open source project, and invite (?) new developers to join up. It might also be good to show the URL "http://incubator.apache.org/uima"; (which would address the requirement of the incubator).
So how about changing "An Open Source Project" to
"An Apache Open Source Effort - http://incubator.apache.org/uima"; (using the word "effort" instead of "project" to avoid Apache complaining about this having to wait until we graduate, because
project might be construed to be a top-level, approved, project.
