Hello everyone,

with recent IT-related announcements regarding the forthcoming London
2012 Olympics, I am trying to establish, from the front-lines, what
exactly is going on at ground level regarding IT arrangements and the
use of the Olympics as a technology showcase for the UK IT Industry.

As you know, the Beijing Olympics made extensive use of IPv6. The London
2012 organising committee has not, so far, made it known whether its
telecommunications infrastructure will use IPv6. Of course, and the
Chinese organising committee had rightly understood this, it would make
perfect sense to use IPv6 to showcase UK IT businesses.

A few colleagues and I at ISOC England, have been pondering about the
following questions:

1. Will Akamai, hosting the London2012.com Olympic Web site, host it in
Dual Stack?
2. Will the wired connectivity service which BT is offering to
journalists, for a fee up to £150 for the month, be IPv4/IPv6 dual stack?
3. Will the free WIFI service just announced by O2 for the boroughs of
Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea be running in dual stack v4/v6?
Presumably this is brand new infrastructure.

We've asked several people individually and nobody appears to really
know. It wonder if anyone here knows definite answers on this. A "no,
no, no" answer would be a real shame and an opportunity missed for the
UK IT industry.

Warmest regards,

Olivier
