I've done M2M hand-off projects with Optus Australia (semi-proprietary Cisco
IPsec setup) and T-Mobile Austria (good old L2TP) on behalf of clients. Optus
was a mess, not just because of timezones, but because there was some fun
getting the IPsec SA to work with anything except a Cisco box. T-Mobile was
completely the opposite: superbly smooth, and their technical team very on the
ball, had pro-active monitoring (how does a mobile telco not have
monitoring?!), etc.

In both cases, there was no direct connection as they don't have any IXes or
POPs in common, so all backhauled over transit.

I saw mention of QoS earlier in the thread. None of the mobile telcos I've had
dealings with have shown any enthusiasm for QoS support — probably don't have
it — though these connections were set up a few years ago now. The closest
I've come to a mention of QoS was Cable and Wireless (UK) who claimed their
handoffs would have QoS. That client didn't go with them as a supplier, but I
suspect the bumf I was forwarded from C&W that mentioned QoS would have turned
out only to go as far as QoS within their MPLS cloud to handoff at $client's
premises, and not back into the mobile network.
