Well, that would depend entirely on what’s important to you.

Peering can get you closer to the sources/sinks for your demand, and can get you increased route diversity.

“closer” can have more than one meaning too - closer in networks terms (cut out intermediate operators or nodes that the traffic traverses), as well as closer in operational terms (direct operational relationship with the provider at the other end).
