Hi Neil,
Thanks for sharing your concerns. Our goal is to make the Internet and BGP more secure - ensuring nothing breaks along the way. During the event, we will all be learning from one another and share our experiences setting up RPKI. Some of the networks engineers that will join us are trusted with configuring routers on a daily basis and have experience working with RPKI. This will hopefully encourage less experienced participants feel confident setting up their own routers - and make them less prone to mistakes. You can find out more information about the work that will take place at the deployathon in our RIPE Labs article: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/becha/join-the-amsterdam-rpki-deployathon-2019 If you have any other suggestions on how to make the road to a more secure BGP even smoother, please let us know. Some of our colleagues will be joining the UKNOF 42 meeting in London next week. Please feel free to ask them any questions you might have.
