Correct on both counts, I won't be heartbroken if I lose XP for good
on this machine, and yes it's a "restore" CD.
Thanks everyone for the wisdom. I'll report back how it went.

I should point out, though, that Fedora doesn't handle FAT or NTFS
partition resizing, or at least I haven't seen it on there. Not really a
big deal in this case, since Judah wasn't trying to save a working
Windows install, but all bets are off if this is a restore CD, and not
an install CD...

Speaking as a n00b, Fedora Core 2 and 3 (and I can assume 4) were both
super easy to use to set up the partitions necessary for a dual boot

If you're using a distro with a good installer, it will probably be able
to set up the partitioning for you. Just install windows first and then
defrag the disk so that there's space at the end for the new partition
(or at least, that worked when I did a dual boot system a few years back).

Have a new laptop. Had been thinking of simply trashing the XP system
it came with, but now maybe I'll try a dual-boot setup. It's been a
long while since I've done one of these. Will probably just fdisk to
make a couple of new partitions, install Linux then re-install XP into
one of the new partitions (it came with a CD for same). Anything
special to watch out for? Will I have to re-install LILO after
installing XP or something like that? Hazy memories of doing this with
W95 ...
