I don't think most spammers are going to bother; the spam is mostly automatically generated and sent to addresses harvested by webcrawlers. I doubt the programs have built in logic to determine that it's a mailing list, find a on-list address, and send from that.

Although it's possible, I think closing the list to non-member posts would be the best option.

i thought we had members-only posting in this one. I have another majordomo at
UMD, and it suffers from the same "occasional" bypasses of the system. I wonder
how they do it....
