I continually come across new and interesting stuff in Vim that's not in vi. Some of it is simple little features like this that just make Vim a little faster and more productive than vi. Some of it is more significant conceptual advances, such as text folding (infinitely useful when coding, taking notes, outlining, or doing pretty much doing I normally do with text). But I've become so dependent on some of these features at this point that I can get quite frustrated when I'm forced to use plain old vi. So, that's why I asked about Vim - because I can't make many of the same arguments for vi that I can for Vim.
