Is it not possible to make it so that the list only accepts emails from a
subscriber OR a UMD mailing address (or other, appropriate whitelist)?
Another option would be to have all messages from non-subscribers get
moderated by someone before getting sent out. Of course, that would still
mean that one person has to deal with the spam.
I'm not familiar with the listserv software, so I have no idea if any of
that is possible.
