[UM-LINUX] open source project

Hi ;
I'm interested in participating in an open source project, but I don't know where to start,
I would like to know what kind of projects is everyone participates, so i can get an idea what to do and how can i contribute to the community better.

I'm thinking of starting with documentation then become a core programmer for a project.
I'm thinking of free software foundation, mozilla or ubuntu projects

any advise will be appreciated
