I also agree that it would be helpful to see the nuts and bolts of developing in the OSS community. I'm talking a full tutorial from how they manage CVS access to how to apply/write patches. Tools like automake/autoconf, etc.  It's one thing to know how to write code--it's another thing to know the tools necessary to contribute.
