My roommate successfully repaired a loose power connector on a toshiba
satelite laptop.
The only thing he used other than a soldering iron was some soldering braid
(sold at radio shack it wicks away the old solder points) and lots of
patience. Just be careful and take your time if there's detailed
instructions online it should be fairly easy. He replaced the old power
connector with a new one bought from online. It was a very successful
repair on a cheap laptop, so he's happy.

In this case it's a loose power connector -- fatigue has broken the
solder joint to a circuit card.
