Soooo... as long as we're discussing laptop repair, I've got an
unresolved problem on my ol' HP laptop. The hinges are totally wobbly
and loose and so the screen won't stay up straight unless it's within a
few degrees of vertical. This means I can only use it on a level table,
or with something to prop it up from behind.
A few months ago I removed the hinge covers and found that the screws
which hold the hinges to the base of the laptop were very loose.
Tightening those up improved things amazingly... for a few days. Then
the hinges became completely loose again and remain so. I have a
feeling the friction clutches of the hinges are simply worn out. Does
anyone know of a source for replacement hinges?
