I think DOS EDIT (from what I very vaguely recall) is somewhat similar to
pico (or its GNU equivalent, nano). vi and emacs (the other classic
unix/linux test editing systems) are very, very different. So much so
that without a tutorial of some kind you probably won't be able to do much
of anything useful with them (like write something and then save it).
Heck, the first time I started vi (by accident) I couldn't even figure out
how to quit! By way of information, vim is a somewhat modified variant of
vi. Unfortunately, I can't really point you to any good tutorials as I
don't really use vi or vim.

a week long Linux sys admin class, and I'd like to be well prepared. I've
spent quite a few hours as a student using DOS EDIT, but I dont know if
that appropriate or similar to pico, vi or any other editor used on Linux.
