WOW! Reading Chapter 2 and "listening in has give me an Aha moment.
Simplifying, we have adopted a new anthology and as someone said earlier we
have the "program police". That being said I read each new theme and the
lessons appear good and follow the strategy work I had been doing. Yet, I try
the lessons and come away feeling discouraged. I think I have figured out part
of the why. 1. The lessons do not feel authentic to me. I am not connecting
with the text and I am often confused about the focus. 2. The selections hit
the surface level but do not inspire deeper thought. I'm not sure this makes
sense but I am definitely inspired to read on, learn and hopefully have a
little stronger stance for doing what is best for the students and not worry
about the districts scores and following the script.
