I was told that when you begin to think in another language, then you are on the way to becoming fluent. Last night I went out with 2 other teachers from my school. You know we would end up talking shop. I found myself sharing what I was learning in To Understand. We had all noticed disengaged students this past week. Our students are checking out in 3rd grade. A 1st year teacher asked me why don't teacher challenge themselves? I found myself replying, Ellin Keene writes that teachers should ........ As with 2nd language immersion, I am becoming immersed in thoughts and ideas. Seeing connections across the curriculum and reaffirming what I believe are fundamental essentials in classrooms today. This book is my painting. I think a bit, read and reread, put it down and pause awhile. At different times it means different things. I am wondering how others are connecting to this chapter.
