Oh, Bev, I love Trina's tear. Isn't it amazing what happens when we slow
down a bit to listen? Today I was giving an end-of-year running record (do
you know BRI Danny's Dragon?) to one of my struggling readers. I had my
fingers crossed under the table--if she passed, she'd be on grade level for
3rd grade. When I got to the question (something like) 'How does Danny get
rid of the dragon?' Emily responded, "It's a text-to-text with The Minpins
because both stories tricked monsters into water. Yeah, Minpins was a lake,
but it's the same thing--so in this story I kinda knew what was coming."
This story isn't as good as Bev's, but you'd better believe I was jumping up
and down in excitement that a child was thinking strategically on a running
record. Yes!
