On the opposite, there's a consistant definition of some abstract characters that are still not encoded : the metal of medals in sports. These are reliably defined and well known since long thoughout the world. Why don't we have a GOLD MEDAL, SILVER MEDAL, and BRONZE MEDAL (some events are adding an iron, or chocolate (!) for the 4th or for all participants, sometimes as well informal an informal "wooden medal (or spoon)" for the looser, or the lowest rank) ? These metals also have an heraldic tradition for alternate representation without colors (bronze being replaced by sand i.e. all black/filled, silver being white/empty, and gold/yellow having its thin-hatched or thin-dotted fill patterns).
These are not just colors, their assigned relative order or value is very consistant to mean: 1st, 2nd, 3rd (thanks to olympic games and most championships, excep in some "rich" leagues like soccer footbal, tennis, or in arts, where where there are variable cups / bowls / plates / statues/ palms, specific to each event, or even cycling, where only the first one in a given category gets a t-shirt color : so these prices only for winners are not ratings).
